FAQs

What are graphite pencils used for?

Graphite pencils are a great medium because the possibilities are endless! They can be used for portraiture, architectural artworks, product drawings or any sketch you desire. They can even be used for writing if that suits you best.

What is the difference between graphite and regular pencils?

To break it down, regular lead pencils are smaller in width, meaning there’s less room for shading and creating depth. Regular pencils also have a finer stroke, making them suitable for intricate sketches and writing. Whereas graphite pencils are thicker and wider, meaning you can produce  darker tones, and shading and smudging effects.

Which graphite pencil is best?

It all depends on what effect you’re aiming to achieve. For example, if you are into fine line art, then a smaller pencil (4H-HB) would be suitable. Although, if you prefer artwork with darker contrasts, you may opt for a thicker pencil (B-6B).

Do graphite pencils erase?

Yes they do! The lighter and softer the strokes, the easier it will be to erase; although deeper lines can still be corrected just fine.

Why do artists like to use graphite pencils?

Artists love to use graphite pencils as they are comfortable, easy to use and a versatile drawing and writing tool. Artists particularly like how the different types of graphite pencils can create visually striking soft and deep tones. Not to mention the ease of correcting your mistakes!
